DWP Digital offers uniquely challenging and fulfilling career opportunities for people interested in making a genuine difference to society.
We’re the UK’s biggest government department: few other organisations globally provide the same opportunity to apply next-generation digital technology on a huge scale to issues touching the lives of so many.
We support 20 million people every day to help them find work and save for their future. We provide financial assistance worth over £180 billion each year to make sure the most vulnerable in society are protected. With 800 locations and 85,000 colleagues, we’re bigger than most retail operations.
Our strategy in DWP Digital is to deliver often and repeatedly. We combine design-thinking and technology to transform user experiences. If you work for us, you’ll have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to be part of something big and unique. For decades, we‘ve delivered the largest platforms across industries and continents. We’re now committed to developing transformative products and services that improve millions of people’s interaction with government.
You’ll work with many talented and committed people who want to be the best at what they do. We offer career-enhancing roles that apply the latest technologies and techniques to meaningful, high profile work. Our people also enjoy the security, flexibility and work-life balance that a brilliant civil service offers.
If you want to work in empowered, multi-disciplinary teams in an environment that values passion and creativity over hierarchy, we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll need to:
• have relevant industry experience of working at pace in an agile environment and demonstrable experience of working from a digital perspective
• have exemplary spelling and grammar and experience of writing and editing using a style guide and plain English
• have experience of taking a user-centred approach to content design and of explaining design decisions in a way that other people understand
• have experience of putting forward the case for content design to senior stakeholders and product owners
• know how to plan user research and have experience of using data and research to inform content decisions
• have demonstrable experience of handling the constructive criticism of your work and of constructively reviewing other people’s work
• understand how your work fits into the wider context of the team and department
We’ll assess you against these competencies during the selection process:
If you’re applying for a role requiring security clearance please be aware that foreign or dual nationality is not an automatic bar. However certain posts may have restrictions which could affect those who do not have sole British nationality or who have personal connections with certain countries outside the UK.
All applications will be sifted according to skills and experience, using candidates’ CVs and personal statements.
At interview we expect you to demonstrate how you meet the essential and desirable criteria through a discussion with the panel members.
Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
A reserve list will be held for a period of 3 months from which further appointments can be made.
Applicants who are successful at interview will be, as part of pre-employment screening subject to a check on the Internal Fraud Database (IFD). This check will provide information about employees who have been dismissed for fraud or dishonesty offences. This check also applies to employees who resign or otherwise leave before being dismissed for fraud or dishonesty had their employment continued. Any applicant’s details held on the IFD will be refused employment.
Our recruitment process is underpinned by the principle of appointment on the basis of fair and open competition and appointment on merit, as outlined in the Civil Service Commissioners’ Recruitment Principles.
If you feel your application has not been treated in accordance with these principles and you wish to make a complaint, you should in the first instance contact DWP by email: HR.BUSINESSASSURANCE@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK
If you are not satisfied with the response you receive, you can contact the Civil Service Commission, which regulates all Civil Service recruitment.
New Tax Free Childcare Scheme
In line with government changes to Employer Childcare schemes, we are closing both child care voucher schemes to new recruits and cross-government joiners with effect from 6th April 2018.
Such new starters (from 6th April 18) will therefore not be eligible to apply or remain in either salary sacrifice or salary plus childcare vouchers.
If a person with disabilities is put at a substantial disadvantage compared to a non-disabled person, we have a duty to make reasonable changes to our processes.
If you need a change to be made so that you can make your application, you should:
Contact Government Recruitment Service via dwprecruitment.grs.@cabinetoffice.gov.uk as soon as possible before the closing date to discuss your needs
Complete the “Assistance required” section in the “Additional requirements” page of your application form to tell us what changes or help you might need further on in the recruitment process. For instance, you may need wheelchair access at interview, or if you’re deaf, a Language Service Professional
